Respite

Last week was so very hot and humid that there was little hope of doing anything creative. The temperatures were in the high 30s and factoring in the humidity, we had several days hovering around 45 C. It was impossible to keep cool and comfortable even when sitting still and needlework was out of the question.

Yesterday brought some welcome relief and I enjoyed a morning walk to the library without feeling like I was being baked. The temperatures were particularly pleasant in the shade. Upon returning home, I decided to take advantage of the change in temperature and worked on my coastal sampler.

Until recently, I had not picked up this work in at least six months. I spent a couple of days just looking at it and trying to decide what I was working on before it was put aside. The shells took hours to complete and I think that I may have been slightly too ambitious thinking that I could complete this in a year. It will be two years next month since I started this project and there is still a long way to go. I last posted about it here.

Now that one corner of the design is starting to take shape, I would like to be able to concentrate on making some substantial progress, but news received last week will prevent this. I will be commencing another midwifery clerkship placement soon, but more about this next time. For now, my cross-stitch offers a welcome respite from the busy times ahead.

Your costal sampler is coming along so nicely. It is not a design for the fainthearted. Just enjoy the stitching and it will be done before you know it. Glad you were able to get back to it.

Our heat also subsided yesterday and I could do some hand quilting as I have only been stitching lately. It is nice to be able to go back and forth between the two.
